Meleray L. Hartfield
This God serving proud woman knelt down every night to pray for her family and others until she was physically unable to do so. Meleray was Born on April 21, 1904. Graduated from Russ College at the age of 18. She was 5 feet 1, educated, with a beautiful physique, and very creative. She left Mississippi and headed to New York and taught in Staten Island, Manhattan and Brooklyn. She purchased her first home in the same district area as Chris Rock. She eventually left New York City for Mississippi in the year of 1973. Came back home to Mississippi at age 58 with her 5 grandchildren and continued teaching locally. She was always a firm believer in education and through faith and intelligence figured out how to send all 5 grandchildren to private boarding schools for a better way.
Meleray retired from teaching and spent latter days, watching her grandchildren grow and eventually her great grandchildren. She loved sewing, cooking, and preparing meals, Christ, and adored her mother! she would say all the time “losing a mother is hard in life. , that you never get over. She was very funny and witty as well! She spent large portions of her time growing fruits and vegetables on the 26 acres of land her father left solely to her. She walked and talked to God about everything. Her family live and thrive off her prayers to this very day! She aged like fine wine living until the age of 99.
